Professional Jewelry Building and Reinforcement - Stone Restoration, Prong and Bezel Reinforcement, and Structural Repairs to Revitalize Lasting Jewelry.
If ring prongs are missing, the gemstone is not securely held and could be lost. We charge €20 per prong to secure your precious stones. For building a new prong, gold, silver, or platinum must be added. Our workshop will shape and finish the work. Sometimes all prongs need to be replaced at once. Sometimes a new setting is necessary if the sides are worn and placing a new tip on a prong/tooth is impossible. Choose the required number of prongs or a complete setting.
More Information on Loose/Wobbly Stones:
Your diamond ring is more than just a beautiful piece of jewelry – it’s a valuable investment and often holds deep sentimental value. Over time, the prongs that hold your diamond securely in place can wear down. This is where repointing of the ring’s prongs becomes necessary.
What is Repointing?
Repointing is the process of restoring the small metal prongs that grasp your diamond or gemstone. These prongs are crucial for securely holding the stone in its setting. Daily wear and tear, accidental bumps, and exposure to chemicals can cause the prongs to weaken or erode. If left unaddressed, this wear can lead to loose stones or even the loss of your diamond.
When Should You Consider Repointing?
Signs that your ring may need repointing include:
- Prongs appear thin, flat, or worn down.
- The diamond seems loose or moves slightly in its setting.
- A prong is bent, broken, or missing.
- Prongs snag on clothing or other materials.
Jewelry experts recommend having your ring inspected at least once a year to catch any prong issues early.
The Repointing Process
At our atelier, repointing is performed by skilled craftsmen using advanced techniques. First, we thoroughly examine your ring to determine the extent of wear. Then, we carefully add matching metal – typically 14k or 18k gold, platinum, or palladium – to the worn prongs. The new metal is shaped and polished to restore the setting’s original strength and appearance. Finally, we ensure your diamond is securely set and perfectly aligned.
Why Repointing Matters
Repointing is an important yet straightforward repair that can extend the life of your engagement ring or jewelry piece. By maintaining strong prongs, you avoid costly repairs and protect your valuable gemstones from loss.
How Much Does Repointing Cost?
Prices vary depending on the type of metal and the number of prongs. Typically, repointing costs between €20 and €40 per prong/tip. If several prongs require attention, we offer package rates for full repointing services.
